"Australia is probably one of the only countries in the world that requires
visas for every person who enters the country. Any Australian
Immigration Official will tell you that the department of Australian
Immigration has one of the most complex visa requirements in the
world.
Because
of this, it is vital to know what Australian Visas are available and
what the criteria are for each when you plan to Immigrate to
Australia.
Temporary Visas
A temporary Australian visa can be granted for holidays, temporary
employment sponsored by an employer, students etc. The Visa expires
after a specified date. I wouldn't recommend illegally overstaying
or you could find yourself a guest of Australia Immigration
Officials in one of Australia's immigration centers.
Electronic Travel Authorities (ETAs)
Some temporary Australia visas are granted on the basis of your
passport of nationality, without ever requiring documentation to be
submitted e.g. UK.
Australia Skilled Immigration
For Australia Skilled immigration you need a skill as defined as a
skilled occupation as included in the skilled occupation list which
is used to define who can apply without a sponsoring employer by the
department Australia Immigration.
If you have an employer who can sponsor you, you just need a
professional level of training, and in almost all cases, 3 years of
work experience in the relevant occupation. Currently employer
sponsored skilled immigration visas can be applied for both in
Australia and overseas.
Business Visas
From 1 March 2003, Australian immigration law was
amended to introduce a two-stage visa processing for business skills
migrants. Under these arrangements, almost all business migrants are
granted a provisional visa for four years.
After establishing a business with the requisite level of business
activity, or maintaining the requisite level of investment in
Australia, provisional visa holders are eligible to apply for
permanent residence.
Requirements common to all Australia business visas are that you
should have an overall successful business career, have significant
business and personal assets, sufficient net assets to settle in
Australia, and a commitment to obtain or maintain an ownership
interest in a business in Australia, or, in the case of investors,
make a significant statutory deposit. In all cases you also have to
have no history of unacceptable business activities
Family Migration
You may be lucky enough to qualify for Family Migration through
close kinship ties with an Australian, an Australian permanent
resident, or a New Zealand citizen living in Australia. Or you may
be married or engaged to one.
If you qualify, and if needed, that person may have to arrange for
you to be supported for two years, so you will need to be on good
terms with them.
There are many different family reunion visas. The most common
categories relate to bringing a partner or prospective spouse to
Australia, but it is also possible to bring children, parents,
carers and remaining relatives (where most of the family has already
migrated).
